Whatsapp celebrates its birthday in style with new whatsapp status update similar to Snapchat stories
Whatsapp is 8 years old today, the number one messaging app is celebrating in style by adding more sauce to its initial text only status update. The instant messaging giants this morning updated its status feature to include picture and video sharing with text on image that disappears in 24hrs just like snapchat stories.
As published on Whatsapp official blog :
We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.
The new Whatsapp status feature looks really competitive, considering Snapchat been the social and fun app pioneering the self-destructive photo and video sharing as stories which Instagram adopted as Instagram stories not long ago and now Whatsapp is here with the same functionality.
This may be confirming the earlier news about Facebook trying to acquire Snapchat which Snapchat declined the offer. This looks like a war between Facebook and Snapchat. Facebook trying hard by rolling out similar functionalities from Snapchat into its owned apps; Facebook Live 🙂
What exactly is going on here?
